The perfume bottle "trezor de la measures" ("the treasure of the sea") by Rene Lalique, was auctioned off in the city of Lambertville for 216,000 dollars. The owner was a 90 year old woman, who received the bottle as a gift from her late husband in 1939. Her husband acquired the bottle for 50 dollars at the famous "Sacks Fifth Avenue" store in New York. The perfume in the bottle is long gone, but the woman kept this beautiful bottle all this time in its own special box. According to experts, Lalique made only 50 pieces, which significantly raises the value of the bottle.
The bottle was acquired by a collector, who chose to remain anonymous. In the history of the jewelry industry the name of Rene Lalique stands in the same class with the names of such world renowned masters as Karl Faberge, Busheron, Cartier, Tiffany &Co., etc.
Rene Lalique, jeweler and glass artist, is rightfully considered one of the leaders of the "art nuvo" style. He created magnificent museum quality jewelry using a combination of many styles and techniques from the European and Japanese craftsmen of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.
