A 57 year old Russian man was very surprised when a jewelry expert from the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg told him, that a gold ring he presented for evaluation was nothing less than a lost masterpiece created by the 16th century famous Italian goldsmith and artist Benvenuto Cellini (1500 – 1571). It is believed that at one time the ring was in the possesion of the king of Poland.
Ivan Adamov told reporters that the six-carat ruby ring was a birth present from his grandmother, and was "resting" for many years in an old jewelry box before he took it for evaluation. According to the experts, this original work of Cellini is worth about 250 million British pounds.
